Asset does not exist or is blocked for posting

Asset acquisition, transfer or retirement posting fails because the asset/subnumber cannot be used.

Likely root causes

  1. The asset number or subnumber is wrong or does not exist in the company code.
  2. The asset is blocked, deactivated or retired for the posting date.
  3. The interface maps to an asset from another company code.

What to inspect

  1. Asset number, subnumber and company code.
  2. AS03 — asset status, validity and master data.
  3. Source/interface mapping for the asset reference.

Resolution path

  1. Correct the asset reference if the wrong master record was selected.
  2. Create/extend asset master data only through approved Asset Accounting processes.
  3. Resolve any intentional block/retirement issue with the asset owner.
  4. Retest the business transaction and depreciation impact.
