SAP WRICEF Effort Estimator

Describe a report, interface, conversion, enhancement, form or workflow and get a defensible effort range in person-days, broken down by delivery phase. Every estimate states the assumptions behind it, the risks that would raise it and the questions to settle before you commit.

Worked example: a custom sales order report

Requirement: a Z report in SD listing open sales orders with ALV output, selection by sales organisation, order date range and sold-to customer, and a drill-down into the order. One system, medium data volume, no custom tables, no Fiori UI, mixed team.

A typical result lands at Low to Medium complexity, around 6–12 person-days with a likely figure near 8: about a day each for the functional spec and technical design, three to four days of build, a day of unit testing, a day of integration testing with real order data, half a day of documentation and half a day for transport. The risks that push it up are performance on large order volumes and authorisation checks per sales organisation.

How the estimate is built

The WRICEF type sets the baseline effort profile. Each complexity driver — more systems, higher data volume, custom tables, a Fiori UI, clean core constraints — adds effort where it really lands, mostly in build and testing. The team profile then stretches or compresses build and test time.

The phase days are checked in code to add up exactly to the likely figure, and the range is checked to run from low through likely to high. Identical requests within ten minutes return the same answer. Need the design as well? Use the Technical Design Copilot, or browse the other free SAP tools.

Frequently asked questions

What does WRICEF stand for?

Workflow, Report, Interface, Conversion, Enhancement and Form — the six kinds of custom development objects SAP projects track. Each has a different effort profile, so the estimator asks which one you are building.

How accurate is the estimate?

It is a planning range, not a quote. It reflects typical delivery effort for the type, the complexity drivers you select and the team profile. Calibrate it against your own team's past velocity and landscape before you commit.

Why is the result a range rather than one number?

Early requirements always hide unknowns. The low figure assumes the assumptions hold; the high figure covers the listed risks landing. The likely figure is what the phase breakdown adds up to.

Does the estimator include cost?

No. It gives person-days only. Day rates vary too much by country, contract and seniority to estimate honestly, so convert days to cost with your own rates.

Planning estimate. Validate against your own team's velocity and landscape before you commit. Effort is shown in person-days only, never cost. ERPClimb is an independent platform and is not affiliated with SAP SE.
