Profit center does not exist or is not valid

Posting fails or document splitting cannot complete because the referenced profit center is missing or invalid for the relevant date/controlling area.

Likely root causes

  1. The profit center does not exist in the target controlling area.
  2. Its validity does not cover the posting date.
  3. Master-data derivation or interface mapping supplies an obsolete profit center.

What to inspect

  1. Profit center and controlling area on the failing line.
  2. KE53 or equivalent master-data display for validity.
  3. Source derivation from material, cost center, asset or substitution.

Resolution path

  1. Correct the source account assignment if the wrong profit center was derived.
  2. Extend/create master data only if the business assignment is valid and approved.
  3. Correct stale interface/substitution mappings.
  4. Re-simulate the document and verify all split lines derive a valid profit center.
