Cost center does not exist on posting date

Posting fails because the entered or derived cost center is not valid on the document posting date.

Likely root causes

  1. The cost center validity period does not cover the posting date.
  2. The wrong controlling area or cost center was derived.
  3. An old cost center remains in master data, user defaults or interface mapping.

What to inspect

  1. Posting date, controlling area and cost center.
  2. KS03 — validity dates and master data.
  3. Substitution/default/interface logic that supplied the cost center.

Resolution path

  1. Use the correct active cost center if the assignment is wrong.
  2. If the business requires the same cost center, have CO master-data owners review its validity.
  3. Correct stale defaults or mappings.
  4. Retest with the original posting date.
