A primary-cost or activity posting fails because the cost center is locked for the relevant transaction category.

Likely root causes

  1. The cost center master has a lock for actual primary costs, secondary costs, revenues or other posting types.
  2. The posting is hitting an obsolete cost center.
  3. A period-close or governance process intentionally locked the object.

What to inspect

  1. KS03/KS02 — lock indicators on the cost center.
  2. Posting type and cost element used by the transaction.
  3. Source derivation of the cost center.

Resolution path

  1. Confirm whether the lock is intentional with the CO owner.
  2. Correct the account assignment if the wrong cost center was used.
  3. Remove a lock only through approved master-data controls when the cost center should accept postings.
  4. Retest the exact transaction type.
