Likely root causes
- Stock is in a different storage location or batch than the posting uses.
- Stock is in Quality Inspection or Blocked stock, not unrestricted-use.
- Posting date is earlier than the goods receipt (backdated posting).
- Special stock (consignment, sales order or project stock) is not specified on the posting.
What to inspect
- MMBE – stock overview by plant, storage location, batch and stock type
- MB52 – warehouse stock by storage location
- MB5B – stock on the posting date, not today
- MB51 – material documents around the posting date
Resolution path
- Confirm the exact plant, storage location and batch in the failing posting.
- Compare against MMBE and MB5B for the posting date.
- If stock sits in Quality or Blocked, release it with a transfer posting first.
- If it sits in another storage location or batch, correct the posting or transfer the stock.
- If the posting date is before the goods receipt, correct the posting date.
- Do not enable negative stock as a workaround.
