MM period not open

Goods movement or invoice posting fails with "Posting only possible in periods X and Y in company code Z".

Likely root causes

  1. MM period was not rolled forward at month start (period-close job did not run).
  2. Posting date falls in an already-closed period.
  3. Posting to the previous period is not allowed in the company code settings.

What to inspect

  1. MMRV – current and previous open MM periods
  2. OMSY – company code period settings

Resolution path

  1. Check the open periods in MMRV.
  2. If the period was not rolled forward, ask the authorized period-close owner to run MMPV or fix the scheduled job.
  3. If the posting date is wrong, correct it to an open period.
  4. Never open periods ad hoc just to push one posting through.
