Source and destination storage locations are the same

A transfer posting warns or errors because source and destination storage locations are identical.

Likely root causes

  1. The same storage location was entered on both sides of the transfer.
  2. An interface mapped source and destination locations to the same value.
  3. System-message control is configured to reject this otherwise meaningless transfer.

What to inspect

  1. Source and destination plant/storage-location fields.
  2. Interface mapping or defaults that populate storage location.
  3. System-message setting if behavior differs across systems.

Resolution path

  1. Correct the destination storage location to the intended target.
  2. If the transfer was not needed, cancel the transaction instead of forcing it.
  3. Correct interface/default logic that duplicates the location.
  4. Keep message control aligned with inventory policy.
