Maximum number of SAP sessions reached
User cannot open another SAP GUI session because the permitted number of parallel sessions has been reached.
Likely root causes
- User already has the maximum configured GUI modes/sessions open.
- Disconnected or hidden sessions remain active.
- Profile settings intentionally limit per-user sessions.
What to inspect
- Existing SAP GUI sessions for the user.
- SM04/AL08 user-session view when administrator assistance is needed.
- Relevant instance/profile session limits.
Resolution path
- Close unused sessions normally.
- End orphaned sessions administratively only after confirming they are safe to terminate.
- Review profile limits only if there is a genuine business requirement, not as a workaround for session leaks.
- Check client/add-on behavior if sessions accumulate unexpectedly.
