F5 702 — F5 702 — Balance in Transaction Currency
SAP message F5 702 means the accounting document being built is not balanced in one or more transaction currencies. Debit and credit values do not net to zero for the currency view SAP is checking. The cause is usually incomplete or inconsistent amounts, exchange-rate/currency data, tax or interface line construction rather than a simple G/L-account configuration problem.
SAP F5 702 guide for unbalanced accounting documents in interfaces, Concur integration, custom postings and FI document creation.

What it means
F5 702 is raised when the accounting interface cannot produce a balanced document in transaction currency. SAP accounting requires the relevant debit and credit totals to balance for each currency view. A document can appear balanced in a source system or display amount while still be inconsistent in document currency, local currency or another parallel currency. The message is frequently seen in interfaces, expense integrations, custom BAPIs and generated accounting documents because those channels construct line items and currency-amount tables programmatically.
Root causes
Typical causes are a missing currency-amount line, incorrect sign, rounding inconsistency, mismatched currency key, or a source system sending totals that do not equal the detail lines. Tax calculation can introduce a residual amount when custom logic supplies gross and tax values inconsistently. Exchange-rate conversions or parallel currencies can expose a difference that is invisible in the source document currency. In BAPI-based postings, line-item identifiers in the currency amount structures may not match the accounting lines. Enhancements can also change amounts after the balancing logic was originally calculated.
What to inspect
Capture the complete accounting payload before posting. Sum debit and credit amounts by currency type and currency key, not just overall. For BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_POST or similar interfaces, match each accounting line to its currency-amount entries and verify item numbers, signs and currency codes. Compare a successful document with the failure using the same interface. Inspect tax lines, rounding lines and any automatically generated differences. If the issue occurs only for certain currencies or dates, check exchange-rate and decimal handling. In Concur or another external integration, inspect the source totals and the transformed payload separately to locate where imbalance is introduced.
Resolution path
Correct the source or mapping so every accounting line has consistent currency amounts and the totals balance by required currency view. Fix sign handling or item-number mapping when those are wrong. Let SAP calculate amounts where the API is designed to derive them instead of supplying contradictory values. If rounding is legitimate, use the supported balancing/rounding mechanism for the process rather than adding an arbitrary line. After the fix, test documents with tax, foreign currency, credit lines and edge-case decimals. Confirm the final FI document balances in document and local currencies and that no unexplained rounding line remains.
The fix people try first (and why it fails)
A common workaround is to add a small miscellaneous line so the document balances. That hides the real mapping defect and can create unexplained financial postings. Another is to round all source amounts aggressively, which may make one case pass while creating differences elsewhere. F5 702 is an accounting-integrity check; it should not be suppressed. The correct fix is to reconcile the currency structures line by line and identify why the accounting interface receives inconsistent totals.
Whose problem this is
FI owns the accounting balancing requirement and should validate the expected currency behavior. Integration or ABAP teams usually own the technical payload that causes F5 702. Tax, travel/expense or source-application teams may own the originating calculations. Treasury or localization teams can be relevant when parallel currencies or special currency rules are involved. The fastest resolution normally comes from comparing a failing payload with a successful one, rather than changing FI configuration without evidence.
Common pitfalls
Do not check only document currency if the interface supplies parallel currencies. Watch debit/credit signs and negative amounts. In BAPI structures, an item number mismatch can make correct amounts appear unbalanced because they are attached to the wrong line. Tax rounding can differ by line versus document level. Be careful with currencies that use unusual decimal conventions. Finally, ensure retries are idempotent; once the balance problem is fixed, do not accidentally create duplicate accounting documents from repeated interface submissions.
