FF7B — Liquidity Forecast (Classic Cash Management)

FF7B shows the liquidity forecast in classic SAP Cash Management: expected incoming and outgoing payments over the coming weeks and months, based on open customer and vendor items, their due dates and planned items. Treasury uses it to plan borrowing and investments. In S/4HANA the Liquidity Forecast Fiori app plays this role.

What FF7B is for

While the cash position looks at the next days, treasury also needs a view of the coming weeks and months. The liquidity forecast uses open receivables and payables with their expected payment dates, plus memo records, and groups them by planning group. It shows whether the company will need funding or have surplus cash.

When it is used

It is used weekly or monthly by treasury and finance planning teams in ECC landscapes with classic Cash Management. It also supports discussions with banks and management about funding needs, covenant headroom and the timing of large supplier payments or tax payments.

How it is used in practice

Select company code, grouping, horizon and display in weeks or months. Drill down to customers and vendors to see which items drive a period. Results depend on planning groups in the customer and vendor master and on realistic due dates. Adjust expectations with planned items rather than editing actual documents.

Fields and objects that matter

  • Planning groups assigned in customer and vendor masters
  • Due dates and payment terms of open items
  • Horizon and period display
  • Planned items and memo records for expected flows
  • Grouping that defines which planning groups and levels appear together

How to prove it in the data

For a period, drill down to the open items behind the totals and compare them with FBL1N and FBL5N open item lists. The forecast for customers who usually pay late will be optimistic if it relies only on due dates; comparing past forecasts with actual receipts shows how much adjustment is needed.

ECC vs S/4HANA

In S/4HANA, the Liquidity Forecast Fiori app and liquidity items replace the classic report for SAP Cash Management users. Flows come from a common flow table that also includes operational documents such as purchase and sales orders; check your release and scope.

Common pitfalls and how they show up

Forecast quality depends on dates and master data more than on the report.

  • Missing planning groups in customer or vendor master data
  • Unrealistic due dates for customers who pay late
  • Planned items left open after the expected flow happened
  • Treating the forecast as accurate without comparing with actuals
  • Large recurring flows such as payroll or tax missing because nobody enters them as planned items

Whose problem this is

Owned by treasury, which decides how far to trust and adjust the forecast. Accounts receivable and payable are responsible for data quality, especially planning groups and payment terms, and sales finance often provides expected dates for large customer receipts.
