SAP Account Determination Finder

“Account determination for entry … not possible” already contains the answer: the chart of accounts, the transaction key, the modifiers and the valuation class of the entry that is missing. Paste the message — with the movement type if you have it — and this page lays the entry out, explains each part and gives the checks that confirm it before anyone touches OBYC. Billing documents not released to accounting are covered too.

Reading the entry

The values after “entry” come in a fixed order: chart of accounts, transaction key, then whichever of valuation grouping code, account modifier and valuation class the key’s rules make active. INT GBB 0001 VBR 3000 means: chart INT, key GBB, grouping code 0001, modifier VBR, valuation class 3000. OBYC needs an account for exactly that combination.

The valuation class comes from the material (Accounting 1 view), the grouping code from the plant (OMWD) and the modifier from the movement type (OMWN). So when one material fails and others work, look at its valuation class; when one plant fails, look at its grouping code; when one movement type fails, look at its account grouping.

Billing: revenue account determination

A billing document with posting status A was saved but not passed to accounting. When the cause is account determination, VF02 → Environment → Account determination analysis → Revenue accounts shows which VKOA access was tried and what failed. The standard key is chart of accounts, sales organisation, customer account assignment group, material account assignment group and the account key from the pricing procedure (ERL, ERS, ERF…). Output tax is different: the MWS key is set up in FI tax account determination (OB40), not in VKOA.
